Welcome RVers

Hi, my name is Jim the Traveler and I am a self described motorhome Geek-that is Geek with a capital G! I invite you to join me as we explore the motorhome life via podcast. The purpose of jimthetraveler.com is to provide unbiased information that is not influenced or supported by advertisers. I am not doing this to make money, but out of a love of adventure and RVing to share with my fellow Rvers. Unlike other RV broadcasts I do not accept any money in return for promoting a product or place on the jimthetraveler website or podcasts.

Function Over Form

All of the information contained here is based on my personal experiences and is fully self financed. Because of this my experiences reflect the true value of products, as I see it, not an analysis based solely on cost. My goal is not to alter your RV lifestyle but to offer alternatives you may not have been aware of or considered. You may think some of these ideas to range from fantastic to ridiculous and I will not be offended if you do not agree with me. Lastly, I want my listeners to be aware that I value function over form, which is not always the least expensive option, but rather the most effective solution for me at the time. Thusly, by refusing any and all sponsorship I am able to provide you with objective travel and product solutions.

RV's Are a Part of My Life

Offroading and RVs have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, thus the concept of dirt roads and RVs have been a constant theme in my life for almost 30 years. I started my RV career with a four wheel drive pickup truck with a camper shell back in 1971 and was soon bit hard by the RV-bug. After the camper shell I moved to trailers and owned a Fleetwood Terry for several years. After the Terry, I moved to my first class-A motorhome, the Bounder by Fleetwood and then the Dynasty by Monaco.

200,000 Miles

Today with over 200,000 RV miles under my belt I am building my dream coach as an alternative to purchasing a custom built Provost. The coach I am modding is a brand-new 2006 Navigator by Holiday Rambler, purchased new off the lot. This top-of-the line motorhome is mercilessly having its guts ripped out to be completely remodeled from top to bottom. Every inch of this beautiful RV will be striped, removed and improved, sparing no expense! The end product will be a motor coach built to my exact specifications. In the podcasts I will tell you how I did it and why. Many of these improvements are tweaks and upgrades that you yourself have dreamed of doing but never dared-until now!

Tips and Tweaks

All of these tips and tweaks will make your travel life easier and a lot more fun just as they have mine. I am not new to modding, camping or traveling and for me they have both gone hand-in-hand. My travels have taken me through almost every state in the nation and just like most of you motorhome geeks out there, I can recite the Interstates off the top of my head like my ABCs. There are plenty of travel tips I will be sharing with you to make your travel life easier and a lot more fun. Like ways to make your driving cockpit more functional, traveling with pets, how to create extra cabinet space, key questions to ask before choosing an RV park and basics like how to keep your toaster from sliding off the counter and onto the floor.

Boon Docking and More

Traveling behind the wheel of your favorite RV is always an adventure and I will share some of my favorite travel stories with you. Some of these stories will include taking my Bounder down dirt roads and other places where you might not think an RV can could go. This takes "boon docking" to an entirely new level. Imagine setting up your camp in the middle of a dry lake bed or on a remote mountain top far away from civilization. All of this can be great fun when you take the kids or grandkids out for the weekend or if you're just tired of RV parks.

I Want To Hear From You

I hope that my objective opinions and travel adventures will amuse you and inform you whether you swear by pavement or occasionally wander into the dirt. Please send your questions using this and be sure to include the type of RV you drive and the length, with this information I will make my best effort to address all questions in a Jim the Traveler Podcast. I really appreciate all your emails and enjoy your questions and comments about the show.

Thank you for joining me and Happy Traveling!!
